RE: Incredible. VW Bug pulling a 5'er

Also, remember that the sheetmetal on the cars from that era was much thicker, so overall strength of the "shell/body" was much better.

RE: did the 2006 dodge 1500 Mega Cab come with the MDS engine?

The MDS is available on the light 1500 trucks. Megacab 1500 is realy a 2500 with a 1500 badge. Even if it had MDS, it would never get activated since any Megacab needs all 8 cylinders to drive - believe me. Mine 1500 Megacab weighed 6500 lbs empty.

RE: Another 2009 F150 review

Interesting, I stopped to see one on the lot and was not impressed since it looked almost same as the old 08. But then I know the improvements went beyond just the sheet metal. Still think 150/250/350 have the best looking interior. Maybe Ram will follow up now. Also I wonder who makes reclining rear seats in crewcabs ? I know Dodge megacab since I had it, also Tundra crewmax has a sliding seat cushion that reclines the back cushion.

RE: Pics of the new rig/setup....finally.

Sorry MadMav, I guess I can't read anymore :) The harness for the fog lights is there on every truck. The only thing the head light switch is different I believe - push action turns the fogs on.

RE: Pics of the new rig/setup....finally.

Looks great, pretty serious piece of machinery. I miss mine everyday, mine was also black but 1500 with Hemi. Still it was the biggest, meanest truck in the neighbourhood. PS: You mentioned fog lights, but I do not see them on your truck.

RE: Severe engine miss while towing - '99 Tahoe

When I had my 99 Tahoe, I had same problems: replaced wires, plugs, dist cap, fuel pump, replaced injectors with the new style spider type from GM, catalytic converter and nothing helped. After I sold it I learned that 2 items i did not try is the distributor assembly and replace it with a better unit (not plastic stock one). On higher mileage vortec's the dist gear gets worn out and will cause a miss. The other theory I heard was that the valves get stock or not close properly, but that called for the head job. I would get a good quality distributor assembly with new cap.

RE: Needs empty weights of diff models of Silverado.

RE: Needs empty weights of diff models of Silverado.

Dodge guy - Not sure about IL, but I am sure in NY it's the empty weight. My Megacab had 6390 weight on the title, the door sticker had the GVW as 8510 lbs, so I am more than certain that on NY titles this is the "bare" weight.

RE: Needs empty weights of diff models of Silverado.

MadMav - Yes, it is very wrong to penailze non commercial users if that what you mean, otherwise I am not wrong, that's the law in NYS. I believe most of 1500 trucks are below 5500 empty. Yes, not every 2500 truck will have comm plates: a WT version reg cab with short bed (if there are such thing) may be below 5500lbs. Also, you can amend the Registration class of your pick up from "Pick Up" class to "Suburban" class by installing a bed cap. Then your truck has a chance of being a passenger vehicle.

RE: Needs empty weights of diff models of Silverado.

Hi Burbman - You do not fall into this category; you burb is classified as "SUBURBAN" body type (Excursion, Explorer, Tahoe, Durango and any SUV as well). Any pickup over 5500 will be classified as "PICK UP" and requires commercial plates, a pick-up below 5500 lbs empty is a passenger car by the NYS DMV law. I could not use Garden State Pkwy whenever I was going into LI. Thanks

Needs empty weights of diff models of Silverado.

I know it sounds strange, but I'll explain later. I need empty weights of 1500, 1500HD, and 2500 Chevy trucks (4x4). I need the numbers as you see them in your owner title, not on the GM website. Here is why now. I am shopping around for a used Silverado. But since I live in NY State, we have that crazy law that any truck over 5500lbs empty weight (as stated in the vehicle title) is required to have commercial plates as opposed to regular passenger plates. It'd be my personal vehicle, I am not a contractor, so I do not need commercial plates. If you have them, you can not use parkways and other roads in NYS. Meantime, Excursion that weighs 7000-8000 is classified as a pass vehicle - stupid, isn't it ? I learned that when I had Dodge Ram Megacab 1500, and it weighed over 6500 empty. So throw your numbers if you can. I am interested in 88-98, and 99-07 era, crew and ext cabs. Thanks

New 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 on sale already ?

This morning on the way to work, on Rt 17 in NJ, I saw a new 2009 Ram 1500 on a car carrier probably on the way to the dealership. So I guess they are available already. Now it's time for the new F150. PS: The one I saw was Crew Cab Larami, red with lower "gold" trim.

RE: '08 F-150 Test Drive (And Tow!)

From the pix I see MSRP of about 38K, with 14 off that's 24K. Not bad for a new truck. I always liked the F150 with its interior. $24K is the right price range for the 1/2 tons, not the 30's that we had to pay even a year ago. I'd go for it. PS: Did you consider same thing with the longer bed ?

RE: 2006 Chevy Diesel Update: It's Mine *pic*

Just make sure that warranty is from GM not from 3rd, 4th or whatever party. When I bought my Megacab new I bought extended warranty, and when I went to different dealer than the one I bought it from, they said they do not honor it. They said too much hassle. Luckily I was able to cancel that and move it to the Chrysler Extended plan without paying any fees.

RE: The most sapcious ext cab within 1/2 tons.

Thanks so far. PS: I am asking about the ext cabs, not crew cabs - those I know are nice.

The most sapcious ext cab within 1/2 tons.

I know some of the members here have had or have someone in the family with different brand of trucks,so maybe you can add your $0.02 as to which is the most spacoius in the back: F150, GM twins, Titan (am I missing something). Lets assume a 2005 (or so) model year. Thanks all

RE: Dodge 1500 Mega Cab 4x4

I had exactly what you have: 1500 Mega 4x4 with hemi, and 3.73. I believe it was rated at 7500 trailer weight. I pulled 7000 few times and no issues powerwise. Mileage is horrible, empty if I got 12 mpg in combined driving I was happy. Do not believe those 15-16 mpg EPA rating, I always wonder where they get those. I loved the truck otherwise (so did my kids), I still miss it every day (not the $120 bill at every fill up). And it is not comparable in anything to 1500 QC trucks with Hemi so most of the numbers do not apply.

RE: New Tundra diesel

Hope to see 25 mpg highway driving, and hope not to see $5,000 premium on the diesel option. I am primarily after the mpg since any 1/2 ton will do what I need.

RE: New Tundra diesel

Keith - I know it won't be 6.7 Cummins, but still you need to add 200-300 lbs between the engine itself and maybe beefier tranny. But maybe they'll work on it. And believe me I'll be the first one to check half tons with diesels when they come out. That's all I need - my trailer weighs no more than 7000 lbs if I load it to the max, very light plowing in the winter, but commuting 70 miles a day empty. That's why my Megacab had to go - 11-12 mpg in mixed driving was pathetic.
